Gokyo Valley Trek covers one of the most beautiful places that lie to the west of the Khumbu area of the Everest region. It enriches with crystal –clear Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri ( Peak ) for climbing and pastures for yaks to graze during summertime. From Gokyo valley, one can also enjoy the 360-degree view of beautiful mountains. That includes Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu – four of them are the world’s eight-thousander peaks.
One can ascend a small ridge Gokyo Ri and summit in 2-3 hours and enjoy a panoramic view of the Himalayas. Gokyo Ri ( Peak ) is a huge black mound of rock and dirt. No need to have a climbing permit from Nepal Mountaineering Association for this peak neither climbing experience. The view from the top of Gokyo Ri (Peak is arguably better than the one above Gorak Shep).
We explore Gokyo valley before and after while trekking up to Everest Base Camp by adding another five or six days to the itinerary. The trail leads past rhododendron and oak forests and waterfalls which often freeze in winter. A couple of hours’ trekking on this beautiful trail we reach Dole where we spend the night in a teahouse. While returning from the Gokyo valley, we walk through Machhermo and Namche Bazaar and our trek ends at Lukla. From Lukla, we catch a flight to Kathmandu.
Gokyo Valley Trekking is the best choice for those who want to explore the lifestyle of the Himalayan people, their religion, customs and traditions of the Everest Region.
