Everest or Upper Khumbu Region is acclaimed to be the world’s most popular trekking region in Nepal. Needless to say this region is the home to the world’s highest mountains that include Mt. Everest (8850m), Mt. Makalu (8470m), Mt. Lhotse (8516m), Mt. Amadablam (6856m), Mt. Nuptse(7855m), Mt. Thamserku (6723m), Mt.Kongde (6011m), Mt. Pumori (7161m) and many other trekking peaks and high mountain passes. It holds all the riches that a trekker can possibly experience in a single combo package.
This region is also popular as the home of legendary Sherpa people and the mysterious Yeti. After the spectacular flight to Lukla, most of the treks begin from Phakding following the route along the Dudh Koshi river and gradually climbs through Everest National Park before getting to Namche Bazaar, the most popular Sherpa capital of the region. In the park, one can see different types of animals such as Musk deer, Leopards, Jackals, Thars, Long-tailed peacocks, Pheasants and in the spring season one can see rhododendron blossoming throughout the area. One can also enjoy and learn Sherpa culture, their lifestyle by visiting this region.
Every year thousands of adventure enthusiasts explore Everest region trekking through high mountain valleys, high passes, Buddhist monasteries, Sherpa villages on such high altitudes and enjoy stunning mountain views. The Khumbu valley is not only famous for the Everest Base Camp trek but it is equally famous for Tengboche monastery hosting the Mani Rimdu Festival, one of the most spiritual places of the Everest region as it is a soulful, peaceful and blissful place for every trekker. In Khumjung, one can see the scalp of the mystical creature’ Yeti’ and it is another attraction of the region.
The Gokyo Valley is known for the 5 famous glacial lakes of the Everest Region, including the Gokyo Lake itself.
The Thame Valley is another major trekking attraction in the Everest Region attracting lots of tourists to the monastery of Thame, the oldest in the upper Khumbu region hosting the famous Dumji Festival.T his Thame village is the birthplace of mountaineers like the first Everest summiteer -Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and the record holding 21 times summiteer Appa Sherpa. The Thame Valley can be explored by passing through the 3High Passes of Everest region and Dolkha District via. the Rolwaling Valley.
